Daddy Lumba’s song featured on King Charles III’s Apple Music playlist

King Charles III and Daddy Lumba

Ghanaian music royalty has met British monarchy in a grand celebration of global sounds, as legendary highlife musician Daddy Lumba earns a place on King Charles III’s specially curated playlist on Apple Music.

His song Mpempem Do Me, from the 2008 album Sika, stands among a selection of tracks that highlight diverse musical influences across the Commonwealth and beyond.

The 17-track playlist, compiled to mark Commonwealth Day, is featured on Apple Music Radio’s The King’s Music Room.

King Charles III, in describing his selection, used a metaphor of unity through melody: “I wanted to share with you songs which have brought me joy. They evoke many different styles and many different cultures.”

“But all of them, like the family of Commonwealth nations, in their many different ways, share the same love of life in all its richness and diversity.”

Like a symphony blending different notes into harmony, the playlist celebrates Afrobeats stars, pop icons, reggae legends, and disco greats.

“I can only hope you have enjoyed these few songs I have had time to share with you,” the King added.

“Perhaps you have heard some of your own favourite pieces—and perhaps you may have discovered something new.”

For Daddy Lumba, whose legacy in highlife music remains unparalleled, this royal recognition is yet another jewel in his crown, affirming his status not just as a Ghanaian icon but as a musical force on the global stage.
