Legendary highlife icon Daddy Lumba dies at 60

Daddy Lumba Dead

Ghana and the world mourn the loss of Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, famously known as Daddy Lumba, who died in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra.

He was reportedly receiving treatment for a brief illness before his death was confirmed by sources close to his family.

Daddy Lumba’s extraordinary career spanned more than three decades, featuring over 34 albums and timeless classics such as “Theresa,” “Aben Wo Ha,” “Yentie Obiaa,” “Playboy,” and “Mpempem Do Me” — the latter of which was recently featured on a playlist by King Charles III to mark Commonwealth Day.

Born on September 29, 1964, in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Daddy Lumba first rose to fame alongside Nana Acheampong as part of the Lumba Brothers.

His powerful vocals, poignant lyrics, and unmistakable highlife sound cemented his status as one of Ghana’s most influential musical icons.

In an official statement released through their legal representatives, the Fosu family described Daddy Lumba as “more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives. His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience.”

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, and the family has asked for privacy during this time of mourning.
